This course provides participants with an overview of the theoretical knowledge and skills required to care for patients with diabetes and the complications of the disease. 

Multi-disciplinary expert speakers will present throughout the day. These include endocrinologists, diabetic nurse educators and other experienced allied health care professionals.

Topics include:

  • pathophysiology of diabetes

  • classifications of diabetes

  • management of diabetes including medications, diet and lifestyle

  • diabetes complications including micro and macrovascular disease

  • metabolic complications

  • insulin infusions

  • management of hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia

  • BLG monitoring and insulin delivery devices

  • self-management skills and insulin injecting technique
