This course provides participants with an overview of the theoretical knowledge and skills required to work in the emergency department (ED). Emergency nursing skills including assessment of the undifferentiated patient will be explored in the context of common ED presentations.

The course is aimed at registered and enrolled nurses who have recently commenced, or are interested in working in the ED. Students are more than welcome to attend this course.

Topics Include introductory sessions on:

  • primary and secondary survey
  • differential diagnosis
  • introduction to trauma care
  • respiratory emergencies
  • chest pain assessment
  • shock
  • gastrointestinal emergencies
  • sepsis and infectious diseases
  • psychiatric emergencies
  • wounds in ED
  • fractures and dislocations
  • toxicological emergencies
  • neurological emergencies
  • hear from our staff
