The 2018 Ride to Recovery has smashed the record set last year, more than tripling donations and finishing on over $113,000. What a result!
It was a magnificent event, with over 700 riders pedalling across multiple sites in Melbourne, with riders in our very own foyer cycling furiously between 6am and 6pm. There wasn’t a spare seat all day!
For the first time ever, the event was opened up to external organisations, with over 10 businesses and schools getting involved. Bikes were located on site, with companies like Scanlan & Theodore, Linfox, Marshall Day Acoustics and the Little Group all getting on board.
Across the day we saw some local celebrities drop by as well – cyclist Matt Keenan, comedian Marg Downey and RockWiz’s Brian Nankervis – just to name a few.
We saw some truly remarkable feats here at the RMH, with teams like Facilities Management breaking fundraising records of their own. Well done Facilities Management, you were fantastic! The competition was hotly contested by teams in both Outpatients and Ward 2B who also rode their hearts out.
Also over here at the RMH, the Emergency Department’s own Cherylynn McGurgan took out the overall distance winner for the females, and Medical Illustration videographer Gregg Brown dominated the men’s race. Well done to both Cherylynn and Gregg!
Meanwhile offsite, the team from Marshall Day Acoustics raised an incredible $11,650, taking out our highest fundraising award for a company. The unstoppable Team Scanlan won the team prize with an incredible $10,710 raised.
We can’t thank you enough for all your efforts, and determination in raising funds that are so urgently needed to fight Australia’s biggest killers. It truly was a life changing ride.
