The RMH Foundation is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our most inspiring donors, Mauricio Munoz.
Mauricio (left, photographed with his family) devoted the last five years to repaying The RMH Emergency Department for, as he said so selflessly, "giving him the gift of life" after he was involved in a horrific hit and run bike accident back in 2013.
Mauricio’s spirit wasn't stifled after 21 major operations and 15 weeks in hospital. In January 2016 he was back on the bike journeying from Melbourne to Adelaide to fundraise for our Emergency Department. Nearly $10,000 was raised and it was a triumph that revealed the true strength and determination Mauricio was capable of.
Just last October 2019, Mauricio continued his fundraising efforts and challenged himself to run the Melbourne Half Marathon in which he raised almost $6,300 for our Emergency Department. Demonstrating once again the power of Mauricio’s optimism and self-motivation, despite his disabilities.
Regrettably, Mauricio didn’t survive a recent short illness and he will undoubtedly be missed by many. Our hearts are with the Munoz family – Mauricio’s wife Michelle and their three children – as we remember him for his unparalleled resilience, strength and immense generosity.
