The Imaging Service offers Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and PET services.
Radiology is a comprehensive tertiary referral service provided by Radiologists with subspecialty expertise. The full range of diagnostic and interventional services is provided for emergency, inpatients and outpatients of the RMH, using state-of-the-art equipment.
Diagnostic services include digital general x-ray, digital mammography with tomosynthesis, ultrasound, CT, MRI, bone densitometry, angiography and fluoroscopy.
Interventional procedures provided include all vascular, neurointerventional, gastrointestinal, biliary and urological interventions as well as therapeutic embolisations for bleeding aneurysms, vascular malformations and uterine fibroids. Image guided biopsies are also provided.
Nuclear Medicine is a public and private service that provides the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services using radiopharmaceuticals.
Diagnostic services include the assessment of myocardial perfusion (exercise Thallium or Sestamibi) and chest pain, bone pain and sports injury, renal artery stenosis (Captopril), pulmonary embolus by perfusion/ventilation, staging of malignancy eg bone/gallium scan, cardiac function, gastrointestinal transit studies. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is also offered.
Treatment is delivered for thyrotoxicosis, thyroid cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, painful bony metastases and polycythaemia. Consultation regarding any of our studies is welcomed.
