This is an exciting time to think about working at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Situated next door is the Women’s Hospital and in 2016, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre relocates to Parkville, across the road from the Royal Melbourne.
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is responsible for providing sophisticated care and life support for critically ill patients. The ICU provides a diverse and challenging environment in which to work. The patient case mix includes:
- Cardiothoracic surgery
- Renal disease
- Respiratory disease
- Infectious diseases
A brand new, state-of-the-art 42-bed capacity unit opened at the Royal Melbourne in May 2016. All bed areas are fully equipped with the latest technology and services. The unit also provides overhead tracking at each bed space to support the no lift policy.
One of the strongest and most valued qualities of our ICU is the collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to patient care. A strong sense of teamwork across all professional disciplines fosters involvement in clinical decision making. This includes the unit’s medical, nursing and allied health staff as well as our visiting specialist teams.
