Our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) service is the largest and most comprehensive of the specialty in Victoria.

It is a tertiary referral centre for complex facial trauma, corrective jaw surgery, reconstructive jaw surgery, cleft and craniofacial related disorders, oral cancer and medically compromised patients requiring dental care in a major hospital setting.

Our OMFS service works closely with many allied disciplines including the Trauma Service, Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Oncology, and University based specialty dental departments. We have strong ties with OMFS services at both The Royal Children's Hospital and The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne.

Research activities and projects

In addition to our clinical work, the OMFS service is heavily involved in research. A long term and close relationship has developed between our service and the research facilities available in the Parkville Precinct. There is a particularly close collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne.

Education and training

Our consultant team is also heavily involved in continuing education at undergraduate and post graduate level.
