Our Orthopaedic Surgery service is dedicated to providing quality care and training for future health professionals.

RMH is the only major trauma centre in Victoria to have achieved formal Level 1 Trauma Verification from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. The review team particularly highlighted the collegiality and positive focus of staff from across specialties to improve the management of injured patients.

The Orthopaedic Surgery service is a leading centre for computer-aided surgery and plays a leading role in the management of spinal deformity and trauma.

It is a tertiary referral centre catering for general, specialty and complex areas within Orthopaedic Surgery.

The Orthopaedic Surgery service works closely with Rheumatology to provide a complete musculoskeletal service.

Our inpatient services are divided between emergency and elective surgery patients. More than 2,500 surgical procedures are performed each year.

As well as catering for a large clinical workload, both basic science and clinical research is carried out, resulting in numerous presentations and publications on an annual basis.
