Last week, RMH celebrated National Volunteer Week, where we commemorated Australia’s almost 6 million volunteers. This year's theme is “Making a World of Difference.”

We’d like give a big thanks to some of our long term volunteers. Serge and Jenny, a husband-and-wife volunteer duo, have been making a world of difference at RMH for almost 10 years. When asked what their favourite part of volunteering at RMH was, they said that they love getting to talk to people and making anyone who comes into the hospital feel comfortable.

Serge and Jenny are just two of 400+ volunteers who generously give their time to provide support to our patients, families, and staff. In the last year, our volunteers contributed over 45,000 hours of compassionate care at RMH. Our volunteers were recognized with a morning tea as a formal thank you for all their efforts and commitment, where CEO Christine Kilpatrick spoke of the necessity of volunteers and thanked them for all their hard work this year.

The event was organised by Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordinator, James Smith. “Our volunteers make a world of difference by providing much needed social support to patients who are anxious, vulnerable, or socially isolated. The kindness and compassion provided by our volunteers can make all of the difference in the world to a worried family member, or a lost visitor in the hospital, and enhances the experiences of our patients. We are tremendously proud of the dedication and commitment our volunteers demonstrate in supporting the MH community,” said James.
