Notifications for patients

Melbourne Health has extensive processes in place to safely assess and manage any patients with viral infections, including the recent novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

As per our standard infectious diseases procedure, any persons with viral infections are isolated. Patients, consumers and visitors can attend the Royal Melbourne Hospital as normal.

To reduce the risk of contracting or spreading any virus, everyone should follow good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette as per normal procedures (cough or sneeze into your elbow or into a tissue that is promptly disposed of, and wash your hands afterwards).

Victorian health guidelines and other resources, including fact sheets in Chinese, can be found at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Coronavirus website.

If you are concerned that you are at risk of carrying coronavirus due to recent travel, please contact the Department of Health and Human Services novel coronavirus hotline on 1800 675 398 before attending a hospital emergency department or appointment.

If you have not travelled to affected areas overseas or have not been in direct contact with anyone who has visited the affected areas overseas, there is very little risk of infection.
