Congratulations to Dr Richard Travers OAM, former Rheumatologist at Melbourne Health and currently an Honorary Associate, who was awarded an Order of Australia Medal at the 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours for service to medical history, to medicine, and to the community.

Dr Travers has been a Rheumatologist since 1979 where he was an Assistant Rheumatologist at The Royal Melbourne Hospital until 2005, and Head of the Rheumatology Unit at Western Hospital from 1981 to 2008. in 20018, he was awarded the Helen Moran Cup by the Australian Rheumatism Association Victorian Branch for service to rheumatology.

Dr Travers was also President of the Medical History Society of Australia from 1987-89, Editorial Board Member of the Bicentenary Bibliography of Australian Medicine (1985-1988) and Honorary Librarian (1985-1994) and Life Member of the Victorian branch of the Australian Medical Association. Dr Travers is also a former member of the History of Medicine Library Committee, Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
