The Royal Melbourne Hospital’s (RMH) scrub choir has launched its disco holiday special.
This year’s track, ‘Put a little love in your heart” is all about spreading love and goodwill to the world, lending a hand to those in need and rejecting hatred. The hope for this year’s special is to bring a smile to the community and beyond, as we send joy to those around us.
Head and founder of scrub choir and music therapy at the RMH, Dr Emma O’Brien OAM said given the success of the global project last year, the scrub choir wanted to champion music and love, and its power to make this world a better place.
“Just when I think surely, we have got everyone involved in Scrub Choir at the hospital who wants to be – more talent springs up,” Emma said.
“I love capturing the moments on the wards when my healthcare colleagues take that moment of joy and run with it- well in this case boogie with it.”
More than 1,000 RMH healthcare workers are featured in the disco special, and after a massive year at the hospital, this video has given staff the opportunity to take time out of their day to enjoy a song and boogie.
Infectious prevention nurse and original scrub choir member, Ana Suto, has gained so much from her time with the choir.
“Scrub choir projects bring me such joy – and that joy helps sustain me in my really busy day,” Ana said.
The scrub choir created small pop-up discos across the hospital to film the clip, using silent disco headsets, with so many staff jumping at the chance to have a dance.
Environmental services coordinator, Medet Gramozi said he wanted to do something special for his team after a huge year of hard work.
“The joy on my teams face when they had the silent disco on, and were doing the moves to the clip, was the best thing I had done for my team,” Medet said.
“This clip has been created from 1,088 submissions and everyone is part of the final cut, everyone gets in, that’s what scrub choir is all about, bringing everyone together,” added Emma.
