The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) congratulates Royal Melbourne Hospital Emergency Specialist Dr Glenn Harrison on being appointed Director of the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association (AIDA).

A proud Wotjobaluk man, Glenn is Australia’s first Indigenous Emergency Physician. Since starting at The RMH in 2001, Glenn has been heavily involved in pioneering initiatives at the Hospital, including the Indigenous Internship Program, which has been running for five years. “A key part of our internship program is identifying culturally safe and appropriate programs for our students,” he said.

“We also encourage students in the internship program to experience a specialist field at the Hospital – we want Indigenous doctors to become experts in their field.”

Glenn is also Co-Chair of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine Indigenous Health Committee, a Senior Clinical Fellow University of Melbourne and member of the Clinical Advisory Group at Deakin University School of Medicine.

The RMH is proud is make this announcement during NAIDOC Week, a time when we are celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
