In a world first, Royal Melbourne Hospital researchers today published the first ever randomised study of a Proactive Inpatient Diabetes Service (RAPIDS) trial to investigate the effect of comprehensive early intervention for in-hospital patients with diabetes.

Vital research to address the growing burden of dementia in Australia has been given a significant boost with $15 million over five years from Colonial Foundation. The grant will enable a new research program – led by researchers at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and The Royal Melbourne Hospital – to develop new diagnostic tests for the early detection of dementia.

Major works are continuing to build the new Parkville Station. The next phase of construction for Parkville Station involves the investigation of underground utility services on Grattan Street west and Royal Parade from early April until May 2019. This will involve changes to traffic and pedestrian conditions.

A record 529 lives were saved in Victoria last year – more than in any other state – thanks to the generosity of 193 organ donors and their families.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital led the country, with 59 donors saving the lives of more than 160 recipients; a huge increase on the year prior, and a new national record with more than ten per cent of Australia’s donors.
