When you are in hospital, each day you or your carers can choose what you will eat from an electronic menu.

Most wards will no longer use paper menus for patients to order their meals. Instead, a food services staff member will visit each patient to take their order on an electronic tablet.

Alternatively you can order meals for yourself or on behalf of a patient via the CBORD Patient app via the App store or Google Play or via the CBORD Patient website.

We provide six meals and snacks a day, at approximately the following times:

  • Breakfast - 7.00 - 8.30am
  • Morning tea - 10.00 - 10.50am
  • Lunch - 11:30 - 1:00pm
  • Afternoon tea - 2.00 - 2.30pm (Royal Park only)
  • Dinner - 4:30 - 6:00pm
  • Supper 7.15 - 8.00pm

Your food preferences

All food in the food ordering system has been checked by a dietitian. This will ensure that you are only offered choices that meet your nutritional requirements and food preferences. Please let your nurse know if you have any special food requirements. Our meal ordering system tailors food choices to you to help you in your treatment and recovery.

Food deliveries

From Friday 3 September 2021, food delivery services cannot enter any Royal Melbourne Hospital site. This includes Uber Eats, Door Dash, Deliveroo, Menulog and similar food delivery services.

Patients are not able to use these services unless they can organise pick up outside.

We are no longer allowing the delivery of non-essential services to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure across all of our sites.

Bringing food from home

If you would like to bring in food prepared at home for a patient, it is important that you speak to the ward nurse, dietitian or speech pathologist first. Food from home may not always be suitable due to a person’s medical condition, increased risk of infection or swallowing problems.

Please ensure that the food is prepared, stored and transported in a safe and hygienic manner.
