Home Dialysis is based at the Royal Park Campus of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, supporting both peritoneal dialysis (PD) and home haemodialysis (HHD).
We care for people dialysing at home across Victoria and southern NSW. We have local home dialysis training and support in regional centres Ballarat and Wodonga.
It is well established that patients dialysing at home have better quality of life and in general better dialysis. We very much believe in the phrase “Dialyse to live, don’t live to dialyse”.
The Home Dialysis Service offers education to assist people to choose which dialysis treatment they are most suited to. Once you are ready for dialysis and training, the nurses will explain everything that you will need to know about caring for yourself at home. Peritoneal dialysis patients undertake most of their training in their own home. Haemodialysis training takes place at the Royal Park Campus or one of our two regional training centres.
The staff regularly check how your dialysis is progressing and also visit you in your home to make sure you are managing well with your dialysis.
We offer world-class therapies and are piloting Telehealth care to home dialysis patients. We do outreach clinic, home visits and Medicare funded clinics at the City and Royal Park Campuses.
In a medical emergency, call 000. If you are feeling unwell, see your local GP or go to your local hospital Emergency department for help.
