A/Prof Tim Hewitson
Senior Renal Scientist

Tim Hewitson is a senior scientist in the Department of Nephrology, and is a Principal Fellow with the Department of Medicine, University of Melbourne, He is a science graduate, completing a Ph.D. in 1998 at the renal unit of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, and a Grad. Dip. Mgt. in 2002.
He manages and supervises the Nephrology Department’s laboratory, and publishes widely on both laboratory techniques and aspects of renal disease in general. For some years, his research work has focused on the pathology and cell biology of progressive fibrosis, the objective being to better understand the failure of repair mechanisms after injury.

Sven-Jean Tan completed her undergraduate medical degree at The University of Melbourne and graduated in 2005. She completed her advanced training in Nephrology (FRACP) in 2012. Her training included time spent at Monash Medical Centre (Victoria), St Vincent’s Health Melbourne (Victoria) and Townsville Hospital (Queensland). She has also completed a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research Methods prior to returning to Melbourne in 2013 to undertake her post-graduate research degree.
She completed her PhD in 2017 and is now coordinating clinical studies.
