A/Prof Elaine Chong, MBBS MEpi PhD Melb, FAMS, FRANZCO, graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2002 and is a dual-fellowship trained Ophthalmologist. A/Prof Chong completed sub-specialty fellowship training in both Medical Retina, and Corneal, Cataract & Refractive Surgery. A/Prof Chong is a Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (FAMS Ophthalmology). She was awarded the Gold Medal for Excellence as the top candidate at the RANZCO Advanced Clinical Exams in 2011.
A/Prof Chong holds a PhD and Masters of Epidemiology from the University of Melbourne. She has received various international awards for her work in corneal & retinal research, with her peer-reviewed work featured and published internationally. She has published over 45 journal articles and have delivered more than 55 international presentations and posters. A/Prof Chong was one of the winners of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) global video contest for her work on corneal transplantation, Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) donor insertion technique.
A/Prof Chong is Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne and is one of the investigators in the Clinical Trials Research Unit, Centre for Eye Research Australia. A/Prof Chong is on the editorial board of the Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology journal, and she sits on the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) Victorian Branch committee and Australia New Zealand Cornea Society Executive committee.
