Ordinary people, extraordinary gifts

Research to find a cure

The Watt-Geyer Memorial Research Fund was established as the gift in will of Allan Watt and Chris Geyer. When they were diagnosed with cancer within a year of each other, they chose to leave a legacy that will improve cancer patient outcomes for years to come. The fund supports vital research into cures for colorectal, liver and brain cancers. Each year, two young researchers receive Watt-Geyer research funding grants through the Royal Melbourne Hospital Foundation Research Grants program..

"I am establishing this fund on behalf of Chris and myself as a thank you to the staff at The Royal Melbourne Hospital for the treatment and care he and I received."
Allan Watt 1961 – 2009

Lifesaving equipment

Bill left a generous gift in his will which helped to fund vital equipment for renal patients in The Royal Melbourne Hospital dialysis ward.

A new ultrasound machine now assists in the care and treatment of people who require dialysis. Bill had been a dialysis patient himself for years and was deeply appreciative of the care he received.  He considered the staff his second family.

Bill’s legacy will help ensure improved patient outcomes for the dialysis patients who visit the ward for years to come.
