Stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers, and a leading cause of disability.

Your donation will help people like Taylor. Taylor was just 16 years old when she suffered a severe stroke in a busy Melbourne shopping centre.
She was rushed to The Royal Melbourne Hospital where our specialised and expert Code Stroke team were on standby. As soon as the ambulance arrived, Taylor was taken for a CT scan to determine the location and severity of her condition.
Shortly after Taylor arrived at The Royal Melbourne, doctors performed a life-saving clot retrieval to remove the clot causing her stroke.
The Royal Melbourne Hospital is currently the only hospital in Victoria with a 24 hour clot retrieval service. And as the state wide referral centre for clot retrievals, we’re seeing more patients than ever before, from all across Victoria, day and night.
We need additional portable cardiac monitors. For stroke patients like Taylor who receive a clot retrieval, this observation machine is used every 15 minutes, especially in the first 24 hours. They are vital for unstable stroke patients who need constant neurological check-ups and around the clock care.
“One day I was getting upset and Taylor just reached across and grabbed by arm, and said ‘be brave, be strong’. It was the first full sentence she had spoken since the stroke. I thought, my goodness, if my daughter can sit here and say this with everything she’s going through, than I can dry my tears. What a determined, amazing kid she is.”
