Our community should be aware that there are false advertisements of health products and therapeutic goods that claim to be endorsed by the Royal Melbourne Hospital or our staff.

Many of these ads, profiles or posts claim to be therapies for weight loss or remedies for hair loss. They often use fake or stolen images that appear to be healthcare workers, often in uniform or including a hospital logo to support their false claims.

As a public health service, the RMH does not provide commercial endorsements, partnerships or sponsorships for health products.

We also do not provide medical or mental health advice, scripts or medication over social media.

How you can help

If you have any concerns about fraudulent activity or see a suspicious website, social media profile or post:

  • don’t like the posts or click on the linked websites
  • report the post directly to the platform (on Facebook and Instagram, use the three dots at the top-right corner of the post and report it as a scam)
  • report scam posts and ads to Scamwatch

Unfortunately, only Meta can take down the posts after receiving scam reports. The RMH can’t take them down without your help.

Tell us about a suspicious post

To tell us about a suspicious or concerning post or message, or if you need help verifying whether it is real, please contact our Consumer Liaison team at consumerliaison@mh.org.au or fill out our online feedback form.

Every report counts

Reporting scams helps protect others, even if you haven't lost any money.
