Notes:
The accuracy of FNA in many situations when applied by experienced and well-trained practitioners can approach that of histopathology in providing an unequivocal diagnosis. The method is applicable to lesions that are easily palpable (skin, breast, thyroid salivary glands, prostate, lymph nodes) or deeper structures with the aid of radiological techniques for internal imaging (lung, abdominal and retroperitoneal organs). A pathologist, together with a scientist are available to perform the FNA procedure and prepare the material when required at O.P. clinics, wards and PMC. The procedure may be performed by the clinician and attended by a scientist from the cytopathology laboratory and requires the provision of a Fine Needle Aspiration kit. To book an FNA - contact cytology. FNA results are routinely available on the next working day or earlier, if urgently required.
