Collection Requirements

6 ml Serum with no Gel. Send to pathology immediately for centrifugation and storage at -70C.  Aliquots must be prepared and frozen within 4 hours of collection.

On recipt of specimen: Allow to clot at room temperature (20-25 C) for up to 60 mins.  Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection, after clotting, at 3800 rpm for 10 minutes.  Immediately transfer approximately 500 uL of serum into 3 aliquot tubes (Sarstedt 2 mL).  Immediately freeze all aliquots at -70 C until transport to RCH.   Transport on dry-ice, do not allow to thaw prior or during transport.

Mannose Binding Lectin is part of the Complement Functional panel. The Complement Functional Panel includes three tests : Classical pathway (CH50), Alternative pathway (AH50) and Mannose Binding Lectin.
