Collection Requirements

Collected in Special EDTA tube containing Aprotinin. Tube is stored at 4C (Biochemistry - Fridge A). ** Tube must be collected from Pathology specimen reception just prior to collection or should continue to be stored at 4C until collection. Send to the laboratory ASAP post collection.

Note: Do not use the BD Aprotinin tube that are utilised for VIP/Glucagon

Notes

1mL plasma is required. ** Must be collected in a special tube that contains a preservative Aprotinin (Trasylol) - Tube must be collected from the laboratory. These tubes are supplied by Sullivan and Nicolaides.

On lab receipt, sample should be immediately separated into 2 x >0.5mL aliquots and then frozen within 2 hours for storage and transport. Label aliquots with the supplied labels "PTHRP Aprotinin additive" (or hand write) before freezing. 

PTH and ionised calcium must be collected at the same time as the PTHrP sample. PTH and ionised calcium results should be supplied to Sullivan Nicolaides with the request.
