Prof Monica Slavin and Prof Jon Kalman AO are Brownless Medal winners

Two Royal Melbourne Hospital clinical leaders were awarded the University of Melbourne’s prestigious Brownless Medal over the weekend.

The Brownless Medal is named after founder Anthony Brownless, and recognises people who have made outstanding contributions to the Melbourne Medical School.

The Royal Melbourne’s Professor Monica Slavin and Professor Jon Kalman AO were this year’s worthy medal recipients.

Professor Slavin is an infectious disease expert, Head of the Department of Infectious Disease at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Head of the Immunocompromised Host Infection Service at the RMH. With more than 170 peer-reviewed publications, she leads both clinical trials and epidemiologic studies with a focus on opportunistic infections, and is a strong supporter of the next generation of infectious diseases clinician researchers.

Professor Kalman is a cardiologist and Director of the RMH Heart Rhythm Services. He is a world leader in cardiac arrhythmia research with over 500 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to his own clinical care and research, Jon has also trained and mentored generations of academic electrophysiologists in Australia and internationally.

The RMH congratulates Professor Slavin and Professor Kalman on their achievement.
