Professor Shelley Dolan has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the Royal Melbourne Hospital

Professor Dolan succeeds Professor Christine Kilpatrick AO, who leaves on 30 June 2023.

The RMH Board Chair, Mrs Linda Bardo Nicholls AO, thanked Christine for her contributions to the RMH over the last six years and for her lasting legacy at one Victoria’s largest health services.

"We are grateful for Christine’s dedicated leadership and contribution to the RMH,” said Linda.

“Under her stewardship, the hospital has grown from strength to strength with a reputation for providing excellence in clinical care and embedding an enviable safety culture. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us as we embark on this exciting new chapter with Professor Dolan at the helm.

“Professor Dolan’s extensive leadership experience and knowledge in strategy development, quality and performance improvement, and overseeing large capital and systems projects makes her an excellent fit for the RMH.”

Professor Shelley Dolan is a highly respected clinical and research leader with an impressive track record in health care, having successfully led major organisational and cultural change in Victoria and the United Kingdom (UK). She is a familiar face in the Parkville Precinct, currently serving as the Chief Executive of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

In her previous roles, Professor Dolan has successfully led large specialist tertiary hospitals in the UK, including as Chief Executive of Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Deputy Chief Executive of the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Professor Dolan said she was excited by the opportunity to lead and take forward the vision of the RMH.

“I am committed to building on the strong foundation laid by Professor Kilpatrick and working alongside talented employees at the RMH to advance health for our community, strengthen collaboration across the health system, and provide the best environment for our people."
