The RMH’s pop-up Measles Monday Clinic is open again on Monday so staff and the public can get up-to-date with their measles vaccinations - for free!
With measles cases reported in Melbourne, the clinic has been opened to support our community to get their measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccination, particularly those who may only have received no doses or only one dose of the vaccine.
The RMH’s Measles Monday Clinic will be open on Monday 16 February between 8am to 4pm on Monday, with additional dates to come.
The best protection against the measles is vaccination – according to the Better Health Channel, two doses of a measles vaccine provides long-term protection in 99 per cent of vaccinated people.
“The measles vaccine is safe and effective,” said Aimee Oldham, Healthcare Worker Immunisation Coordinator at the RMH.
“Measles is a highly infectious disease and can cause serious illness. If you haven’t had two measles vaccines, or don’t know, get vaccinated to protect yourself, your loved ones and your community.
“If you’re travelling overseas, you could also be exposed to measles, so this is a great opportunity to check, and get fully protected.”
The MMR vaccination is available at the clinic for RMH staff, staff from our Parkville Precinct partners and people in the community who fit the following eligibility criteria:
- People aged 20 to 59 years
- Do not have evidence of two MMR vaccines
- Feeling well and no contraindications to receiving the MMR vaccine (for example, pregnancy, immunocompromised)
The clinic will run in the Bone Marrow Research Building, at the RMH Parkville (entry is via Royal Parade).
