The Royal Melbourne Hospital congratulates anaesthetist Professor Kate Leslie AO on being appointed to President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Australian Medical Council (AMC).

A highly regarded anaesthetist and anaesthesia researcher, Kate has a long history with the AMC. In 2011, she was appointed to AMC Council and in 2013, became a Director. Kate has also served as a member and Chair of the AMC Specialist Education Accreditation Committee since 2011, and most recently as Deputy President (since 2015).

Kate’s passion for advancing education for medical students and researchers extends to her own role at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, as Head of Research in the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Management.

Kate is looking forward to working with the AMC as they reflect on lessons learned from COVID-19.

“In the next two years our challenge will be to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and embed some of the fantastic innovations that have arisen from it, Kate says.

“The AMC shares these challenges with universities, colleges and health services.”
