The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) cardiologist Associate Professor Luke Burchill has been awarded the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Sandra Eades Investigator Grant Award.

This award is given to the top-ranked applicant by an Indigenous Australian Researcher in the Emerging Leadership category of Investigator Grants.

The international recognition was awarded to A/Prof Burchill for his clinical leadership and research in the field of adult congenital heart disease (CHD).

As Australia’s first Aboriginal cardiologist, A/Prof Burchill is dedicated to improving health equity, particularly adults living with CHD and Victoria’s Aboriginal community. His research addresses both medical and mental health needs of communities.
