Congratulations to several RMH clinicians who have been awarded NHMRC Investigator Grants, announced on Friday.

The grants support clinicians to continue research into areas such as heart disease and cardiac health, multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammatory diseases, coeliac disease and stem cell research that support our purpose of advancing health for everyone, every day.

Investigator grants awarded include:

  • Prof Tomas Kalincik: New paradigms in prevention of disability in multiple sclerosis
  • Dr Prashanth Ramachandran: Advancing diagnosis of neuroinflammatory diseases through metagenomics, host transcriptomics and genomics
  • A/Prof Jason Tye-Din: Understanding acute gluten immunity to improve coeliac disease diagnosis, management and clinical trials
  • Prof Geoffrey Lindeman: Exploiting breast stem cell research discoveries for transfer to the clinic
  • Dr Prasanti Kotagiri: Improving long-term outcomes post kidney transplant through study of the immune receptor repertoire
  • Dr Shobi Sivathamboo: Preventing sudden unexpected death in epilepsy: Discovery of predictive biomarkers and risk factors for precision-based care
  • Prof Sharon Lewin: Novel interventions to treat and cure acute and chronic viral infections
  • Prof Patrick McGorry: Precision psychiatry working backwards to move forwards
  • Prof Patrick Kwan: Transforming epilepsy outcomes through innovative technologies
  • Prof Elizabeth Manias: ENgaginG older people Across transitions of care to improve medication manaGEment (The ENGAGE Project)
  • Dr Abby Douglas: Improving outcomes in high-risk cancer patients through rational antimicrobial use
  • Prof C. Barnaby Nelson: The prediction and treatment of early stage psychosis
  • Dr Fana Alemseged: Improving outcomes of patients with posterior circulation ischaemic stroke
  • Prof David Coghill: Improving treatment equity and outcomes for ADHD
  • Dr Jessica Howell: END-B: Using novel diagnostics, new models of care and economic modelling to achieve hepatitis B elimination and reduce liver cancer deaths

Congratulations also to our recent NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships recipients, including:

  • Dr Jessica Yao: understanding the long-term cardiovascular consequences of pre-eclampsia
  • Dr Paolo D'Ambrosio: intensive endurance exercise and cardiac arrhythmias
  • Dr Sohaib Virk: Mapping persistent atrial fibrillation: Identification of amplifier sites responsible for arrhythmia maintenance
