Four Royal Melbourne Hospital (the RMH) physicians are among 29 new Fellows of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS).
Professor Ingrid Winship AO, Professor Kanta Subbarao, Professor Karin Leder and Professor Jodie McVernon were elected this week to the positions, joining the independent, interdisciplinary body of more than 400 Fellows elected by their peers for their outstanding achievements and exceptional contributions to health and medical science in Australia.
Clinician-scientist Prof Winship is the Director of the RMH’s Genomic Medicine department and the inaugural Chair of Adult Clinical Genetics at the University of Melbourne and the RMH.
Virologist and paediatric infectious diseases specialist Prof Subbarao is Director of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza at the RMH’s Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL), based at the Doherty Institute.
Professor McVernon is also part of the VIDRL team and Director of Epidemiology at the Doherty Institute.
Professor Karin Leder is an infectious diseases physician and the Director of Travel Medicine and Immigrant Health at the RMH.
