This week the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) welcomed 76 new nursing graduates, marking the first of three intakes for the year. They have commenced their 54-week Transition to Practice Program, which involves rotations in two clinical areas.

Charlotte and Spencer, new RMH nursing grads

Charlotte and Spencer, two of the new nursing grads, shared why they chose a nursing career at RMH and their expectations for the journey ahead.

Why did you choose a career in nursing at the RMH?

Charlotte: “I chose the RMH because of the range of specialties available and the support that I can access. The values also align with my own.”

Spencer: “The people and values that were presented to me during the interview process were the main reasons I wanted to work at the RMH. I felt very welcomed and supported and that made me want to come here.”

What are you most looking forward to during your time with us?

Spencer: “General surgery is something I'm quite passionate about and interested in. I'm excited to see the surgeries, understand what they do and provide post-op care. I’m really looking forward to learning how I can improve the patient's journey and watch their condition getting better over time”

Charlotte: “I’m also looking forward to general surgery. I enjoy a busy, fast paced environment. I’m excited to learning about how to provide appropriate care for acutely unwell patients while extending my knowledge.
