Candice McKenzie is Director of Aboriginal Health at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Her expertise includes Indigenous Health Education and professional practice, and she has a keen interest in Indigenous Bioethics.
With over a decade of experience in higher education, Candice has led and completed major audits and evaluations of medical education pedagogy and developed frameworks and programs for a range of organisations, ensuring compliance with culturally safe healthcare.
Candice has a Master of Public Health from Deakin University and her expertise includes designing, developing, implementing, evaluating and reporting on Indigenous pedagogy and health strategy.
Candice has been an invited guest speaker at numerous Indigenous health conferences and bioethics workshops and has served on both state and national strategic and representative bodies. She has received awards for excellence in developing innovative Indigenous health curricula and for her outstanding contributions to Indigenous education through teaching.
Candice is a founding member of the Summer Internship for Indigenous Genomics (SING Australia) and co-convenor of its inaugural Australian conference. She has served on committees for both the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand (OCANZ) and has contributed to numerous academic journal articles and conferences focused on Indigenous health and medical education.
Candice has received multiple awards for excellence in Indigenous medical education and was a participant in the Australian, American Leadership Dialogue (AALD). She has also been awarded research grants for her work in Indigenous eye health and epigenetics, exploring Indigenous, national, and global perspectives.
