Katie is a Credentialed Diabetes Educator and the Nurse Unit Manager for Diabetes Education at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, with over 20 years’ experience in diabetes care.
She leads a high performing Diabetes Education service delivering specialist diabetes nursing care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Originally trained in nursing in New Zealand, Katie completed her postgraduate qualification in Diabetes Education at the University of Technology Sydney.
She sits on the Course Advisory Committee for the Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education at Mayfield Education and has led the development of postgraduate student and organisation wide diabetes continuous professional development programs at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH).
She is also a mentor for diabetes educators seeking credentialled status with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA).
Katie provides strategic leadership to a Diabetes Clinical Nurse Consultant team delivering nurse led diabetes education and care, working closely with medical and multidisciplinary colleagues across Diabetes and Endocrinology.
Her work is driven by a strong commitment to delivering world class, value based and person-centred care, including through partnerships with community based services to strengthen collaborative models of care.
Katie is passionate about First Nations health and is actively involved in digital health and health innovation.
She continues to lead service improvements that enhance access, experience and outcomes for people living with diabetes. Her work has contributed to national abstracts and presentations highlighting innovative practice in diabetes education at the RMH.
