Pharmacy

What we do

Pharmacy provides medication management services to all areas of the hospital. These are delivered by teams of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who are here to make sure patients are provided with the correct medication and information. 

Our clinical pharmacists visit wards and departments to review and discuss patient’s medications, doses, side effects and any allergies that patients might have. They also provide advice and support to doctors, nurses and other members of the healthcare team about medications to optimise your care. Our pharmacists also counsel patients on their medications and answer any questions or concerns that might arise.

The RMH Parkville

The Pharmacy is located on the ground floor near the Information Desk and supplies medication when patients are in hospital and when they are discharged. Our Outpatient Pharmacy service dispenses the RMH prescriptions from various specialist clinics.

There are retail pharmacies nearby who can dispense prescriptions, provide over the counter medications, toiletries, perfumes, make up and gifts. There is also a 24 hour pharmacy located just outside the hospital.

The RMH Royal Park

There is a team of pharmacy staff based at the RMH Royal Park who provide the same services as the RMH Parkville for patients who have their care managed there.

Pharmacy services for tuberculosis

Medications used for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB) disease are provided free of charge for patients notified to the Department of Health and are dispensed through hospital pharmacies.

The supply of medications for the treatment of TB is managed through the Victorian Tuberculosis Program in conjunction with the RMH Pharmacy.
