Today, the RMH's Chief Executive Prof Shelley Dolan, joined the Premier Jacinta Allan, Minister for Health, Mary-Anne Thomas, and Minister for Public and Active Transport, Gabrielle Williams, along with representatives from the Victorian Government, Metro Trains, and the Parkville Precinct, to tour the new Parkville Station and celebrate the early opening of the Parkville Station pedestrian underpass.
The new station will transform travel for thousands of medical staff, patients, families, students, teachers and researchers who travel to the Parkville precinct every day.
The underpass is a 44m-long pedestrian walkway under Grattan Street and Royal Parade, linking the University of Melbourne, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Royal Women's Hospital and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre - making it easier and safer to cross the road throughout the precinct.
It is now open between 9am and 7pm, for hospital staff, patients and visitors, along with university staff and students to get to know the new station.
Trains at Parkville Station will officially start running once the Metro Tunnel opens on Sunday 30 November - visit The Metro Tunnel opens on November 30 - Transport Victoria to find out how your commute may change.
