Our rehabilitation ward at the RMH Royal Park helps you rebuild strength, confidence and independence, with a program built around your personal goals.

Your first days

When you arrive at the rehabilitation ward at the RMH Royal Park, our team will assess your strengths, needs and abilities.

They will also ask about your goals – both for your physical function and for getting back to your usual activities in the community.

We then design a therapy program tailored to your specific needs. It focuses on the goals you set together with the team. The amount of therapy you do depends on these goals.

Length of stay

The length of stay in rehabilitation varies from person to person, based on individual needs.

Some people stay for a short time, others for longer. This depends on your goals and needs, and how they change as your therapy progresses.

Your care team

Our rehabilitation team works to build your capacity, strength and function.

The team may include:

  • Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Speech pathologists
  • Dietitians
  • Psychologists
  • Social workers
  • Podiatrists
  • Prosthetists
  • Pharmacists
  • Complex discharge coordinators

What is the ward like?

The rehabilitation unit is a 30-bed ward with medical and nursing care provided 24 hours a day.

Each room has a television available to rent.

The rehabilitation ward is smoke-free. If you'd like support to quit smoking during your stay, our team is here to help.

Your daily routine

You will receive a weekly timetable outlining your appointments and therapy times. Therapy is offered between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

On weekends, we encourage you to practise the skills you've learnt during the week.

Therapy isn't limited to the gym.

The everyday things you do on the ward with your nurses, family or carer are an important part of your recovery too.

Visitors

We welcome visitors to the ward as your support people play an important part in your recovery and comfort.

When planning a visit, please keep in mind:

  • Rest period - 1:30pm to 2:30pm (for all patients)
  • Therapy times - listed on your therapy timetable
  • Visiting hours - end at 8pm

Good communication between patients, families and staff supports your recovery, so we encourage visitors to check in with staff during their visit.

Parking

On-site parking is available for a fee. Parking is free for vehicles displaying a valid disability permit and parked in a marked accessible space.
