What you need to know if you have an appointment for a cardiology test or procedure at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Telehealth or in-person

We offer both face-to-face and telehealth options for appointments. Note that some of our clinics are telehealth-only.

In some cases, face-to-face appointments are preferred. Your specialist will discuss this with you.

Before your appointment

Updated referrals

Many of our clinics are Medicare-funded and require an updated yearly GP referral for compliance and billing purposes.

You may be asked to update your referral before your appointment.

Cardiology pre-admission clinic

You may be required to attend a pre-admission clinic (PAC) appointment before your cardiac procedure.

This is for us to:

  • clarify the nature of the procedure
  • stop or change medications ahead of the procedure as required
  • discuss the procedure with you

What to bring

  • Medications or medication list
  • Any other documents or information that may be relevant to your appointment

Your doctor

We are a teaching hospital, so you may be seen by a junior doctor (resident/registrar) during your appointment.

Junior staff are always supervised by a senior cardiologist.
