We provide free mammographic screening to women aged 40 years and over without breast cancer symptoms or breast problems.

Key points

  • BreastScreen Victoria invites all eligible population aged 50-74 with no breast symptoms to have a breast screen every two years.
  • Victorians under 40 and over 74 are encouraged to discuss the benefits and risks of screening with their doctor.

What we do

BreastScreen provides free mammographic screening to women aged 40 years and over without breast symptoms or breast problems.

What is a breast screen?

A breast screen is an x-ray picture of the breast (also called a mammogram). Breast screens can find cancers that are too small to see or feel. The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chance of a positive outcome.

A breast screen is free, takes about 10 minutes, and is conducted by a woman. It does not require a GP referral or Medicare card.
