Centre of Excellence
We care for people with a broad range of endocrine conditions, including diabetes, osteoporosis, pituitary disease and thyroid disease. We deliver expert diabetes clinical care and education to patients of the hospital and have been recognised by the National Association of Diabetes Centres as a Centre of Excellence.
Major clinical initiatives have occurred in the fields of diabetes, pituitary and bone and mineral medicine. We are the first hospital in Australia to establish a networked blood glucose meter system across all inpatient areas (automatically integrated with an electronic medical record) to foster proactive inpatient diabetes care.
We established Victoria's first multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Unit (DFU) and this forms part of the broader Hospital Admission Risk Program.
We deliver expert diabetes clinical care and education including ambulatory insulin stabilisation, insulin pump, continuous glucose monitoring and bolus advisor glucose meter services. We are recognised as delivering state-of-the art perioperative care of patients undergoing pituitary surgery and have also established a fracture-capture service to treat patients with bone disorders presenting to hospital with fractures.
