Ward 6 South West (6SW)
Ward 6 South West cares for people who need:
- Medical management of kidney disease
- All types of dialysis (delete acute and plasma exchange & home dialysis for both peritoneal and home haemodialysis)
- Pre- and post-kidney transplant care
Our ward is staffed by highly experienced renal nurses and doctors with a transplant and nephrology consultant allocated each day and on-call overnight.
We also support other acute services in the hospital for people with kidney problems.
Ward 6 West (6W)
Ward 6 West is open seven days a week providing care for patients requiring acute and chronic haemodialysis and plasma exchange. The unit is staffed by highly trained nursing staff, supported by the medical and allied health teams to provide care for patients.
6 West services include:
- Starting haemodialysis for patients with end-stage renal failure
- Established haemodialysis for in-patients with other medical conditions
- Remote haemodialysis for critically ill patients located in wards at the RMH
- Plasma exchange for auto-immune disorders and ABO incompatible transplantation
- On-call for out-of-hours emergency acute haemodialysis
- Other renal related infusions and procedures
Patients begin haemodialysis in 6 West and then transition to a unit closer to their home once they are established on dialysis and a position is available.
