What we do

Neuro-ophthalmology is a combination of two specialties: Neurology and Ophthalmology.

It focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of complicated vision disorders of the brain, optic nerve and eye muscles. We see individuals with visual problems related to these structures. 

We assess patients with motor or sensory neuro-ophthalmological problems.

Who can use our service

This clinic is suitable for:

  • Adults (aged 18 years or over)
  • Patients with visual loss related to optic nerve disease or unexplained and seen by an ophthalmologist/optometrist
  • Patients with binocular diplopia
  • Patients with swollen optic nerves
  • Patients with a suspicion of idiopathic intracranial hypertension
  • Patient with abnormal eye movements - Nystagmus / saccadic intrusions
  • Patients with pupil abnormalities
  • Patients with ptosis

This clinic is not suitable for:  

  • Paediatric patients
  • Patients with monocular diplopia
  • Patients with vision loss and has not seen an ophthalmologist/optometrist

Every time you come

Every time you come in for a test, day procedure, surgery or treatment, you should bring:

  • Medicare card
  • Health Care card (if you have one)
  • Concession card (if you have one)
  • Adverse drug alert card (if you have one)
  • Medications you are currently taking, including any that you have bought without a prescription
  • X-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results you have which are related to your procedure
  • Private health insurance card (if you want to use it)
  • Aids (glasses, hearing aid, walking frame)

For a clinic appointment

If you come for a clinic appointment, you should also bring:

  • Your appointment letter
  • Any special items listed on your letter
  • Your appointment book (if relevant)
  • TAC or WorkCover claim number
