ELUMINATE-2 is a clinical trial evaluating the safety and effectiveness of a new once-daily oral medication for adults with Type 2 diabetes.

The study will assess whether this investigational treatment can help improve blood glucose control and will compare it with an established injectable diabetes medication. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups and followed for 52 weeks. Eligible participants may also have the opportunity to continue into a longer-term extension study.

This Phase 3 research study aims to advance treatment options for people living with Type 2 diabetes, including oral alternatives to injectable glucose-lowering therapies.

Who can take part

You may be eligible to participate in this research project if you:

  • Are over 18 years of age
  • Have been formally diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, AND
  • Are able and willing to take part in the study for up to 58 weeks
  • Are on a stable dose of up to two oral glucose lowering medications
  • Have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease

You may be ineligible to participate in this research project if you:

  • Have gained/lost >5% of your body weight in last 3 months
  • Have any previous liver or kidney disease, any heart arrythmia, and/or history of cancer (apart from some skin cancers)
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

What's involved

The visits will involve collection of blood and urine, as well as medical assessment by the study team. Other tests will include ECG, blood pressure, weight, eye examination, and surveys on health and wellbeing.
