Doherty Institute

The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (the Doherty) is a partnership between the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the University of Melbourne.

The Doherty’s vision is to improve health globally through discovery research and the prevention, treatment and cure of infectious diseases.

We work with the Doherty to be the statewide provider for:

• Victorian Infectious Diseases Service
• Victorian Tuberculosis Program

WEHI

WEHI (formerly the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research) is Australia's oldest medical research institute. Connected by the University of Melbourne, WEHI and the RMH have a long history of research and innovation.

Snow Centre for Immune Health

The Snow Centre for Immune Health brings together leading Australian and international researchers to tackle the major global health challenge of immune health, which underlines many major human diseases.

Colonial Foundation Healthy Ageing Centre

The Colonial Foundation Healthy Ageing Centre was established as a collaboration between founding partners WEHI and the RMH, and made possible thanks to a generous $15 million commitment from the Colonial Foundation.

The Centre has a single focus: to design and develop the first blood test to diagnose dementia. The test will diagnose dementia at an early stage, when more can be done to stop or slow the progression of the disease.

VCCC Alliance

The VCCC (Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre) Alliance is a joint venture between leading research, academic and clinical institutions that integrates cancer research, education and clinical care. It aims to leverage the strengths of VCCC Alliance members to accelerate cancer research, knowledge and expertise to benefit all.

Our role

The RMH brings to the VCCC Alliance:

• strong translational research
• extensive surgical and medical expertise built on its foundation as a university teaching hospital

BioGrid Australia Limited 

BioGrid Australia operates a federated data-sharing platform for collaborative translational health and medical research. 

Its secure infrastructure links privacy-protected and ethically approved data among a wide network of health collaborators. The RMH is a major partner.

Brain Cancer Centre

The Brain Cancer Centre includes research collaborations between WEHI, the RMH, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Children’s Hospital, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Monash University, the University of Queensland and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre. 

The teams will concentrate their efforts on new brain cancer discoveries, diagnostics and treatments.

Melbourne Academic Centre for Health

The mission of the Melbourne Academic Centre for Health (MACH) is to improve health and wellbeing by integrating medical research, education and clinical care. The RMH is a partner of the centre.

Melbourne Ageing Research Collaboration

Melbourne Ageing Research Collaboration (MARC) aims to improve the lives of older people through the rapid translation of research into policy and practice to influence systemic change. MARC is a unique consortium of partners, bringing together health and aged care services, universities, research and advocacy organisations, and the broader community.

MARC is led by the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) and based at RMH Royal Park.

Melbourne Brain Centre

The Melbourne Brain Centre, based at the RMH Parkville, is the largest brain research group in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a partnership between the RMH, Florey, Austin and the Melbourne Neuroscience Institute at the University of Melbourne. 

Research at the centre is focused on the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders, including:

• stroke
• epilepsy
• multiple sclerosis
• Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders
• psychiatric disorders
• Alzheimer’s disease and dementia
• neurodegenerative disorders
• brain tumours

Melbourne Genomics Health Alliance

The Melbourne Genomics Health Alliance is dedicated to bringing the global knowledge of genomics to benefit the individual care of Victorians. The alliance's vision is for Victoria to be a world-leader in using genomics in health care.
