The police liaison service at the Royal Melbourne Hospital is the hospital’s primary point of contact for Victoria Police and other law enforcement agencies about police-related matters.

Police-related matters may include:

  • Police personnel seeking to issue warrants, subpoenas, summons or other Court documents to the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) in police matters
  • Police personnel seeking high-level, general information about a patient’s condition (for example, whether a patient’s condition is “stable”, “serious” or “critical”, or whether the patient is deceased)
  • Police requests for a patient’s health information where an appropriate authority exists
  • Police requests for statements concerning patients
  • Queries related to forensic evidence
  • Assisting police who are preparing a brief on behalf of the coroner
  • Queries regarding missing persons

Family Violence and Child Information Sharing Schemes

For requests under the Children, Youth and Families Act (CYFA), email RMHhisFaxRequests@mh.org.au with the patient details and specific clinical information required. Please ensure the request is signed and dated by a delegate of the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
