We offer a broad range of mandatory and elective rotations for our Stage 2 and Stage 3 registrars (including SIMGs on the Partial Comparable pathway with RANZCP).

Mandatory rotations
Our mandatory rotations include:
- Hospital and community-based child and adolescent psychiatry rotations at the Royal Children's Hospital and the Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS). Rural Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) rotations can also be considered.
- Consultation liaison psychiatry positions at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Other opportunities and subspecialties
Beyond the RANZCP mandatory training requirements, we have:
- a variety of general integrated adult community and residential units (PARC, CCU, SECU) for more senior registrars, and
- positions within our Older Adult (Aged) program for Stage 2 and 3 trainees
We also have close links with other services to provide opportunities to train in many subspecialty areas, including:
- Youth Mental Health via Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS)
- Forensic psychiatry via Forensicare statewide forensic mental health service
- Private psychiatry via The Melbourne Clinic and Albert Road Clinic
- Centralised Triage service covering all mental health referrals
- Homeless mental health based at the RMH
- Research via the University of Melbourne Department of Psychiatry
- Senior registrars who undertake their training with us can also apply to the Royal Women’s Hospital, the Eating Disorder Unit and Neuropsychiatry Units at the RMH
Selection criteria
Essential criteria
- Completed a medical degree and be able to provide evidence of your qualifications
- Successfully completed Stage 1 or 2 RANZCP training or be assessed as Partially comparable on the Specialist Pathway Assessment with RANZCP
Desirable criteria
- Successfully completed mandatory Stage 2 rotations in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Consultation Liaison psychiatry
- Demonstrated effective communication skills including the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated commitment to the RMH values in your work
- Be eligible to work in Australia without employer sponsorship
