Weather and climate
Melbourne has a temperate climate with distinct seasons throughout the year:
- Summer (December to February) is generally warm, with average temperatures ranging from 14°C to 30°C
- Winter (June to August) is mild and cool, with temperatures typically between 6°C and 14°C
Melbourne's weather can change quickly with locals often joking about experiencing "Four seasons in one day", but the city enjoys a comfortable climate overall, with plenty of sunshine throughout the year.
Melbourne follows the 4-season calendar of summer, autumn, winter and spring. However, local Aboriginal peoples historically recognised 5, 6 or even up to 8 seasons based on distinct weather patterns and changes in local flora and fauna.
Getting around
Melbourne has an extensive public transport network of trains, trams and buses, making it easy to travel throughout the city and surrounding suburbs.
The RMH is located just 5 minutes from Melbourne central business district (CBD).
Schools and family support
Melbourne has a wide range of schooling, childcare and family support services available, making the city and surrounds a popular choice for healthcare professionals who are relocating with partners or children.
